Freelance Websites - How to Find New Freelancing Job Clients

There are many websites on the internet that help connect freelancers and those that want their services. Some websites tend to specialize in specific types of work, so you may want to search around for the best website for your particular skills if you do not see something relevant talked about here. You may also want to investigate the clients that frequent various websites to determine where you might get the best pay for your services. A website frequented by Indian and Chinese webmasters would not be a very desirable place for an American web designer to look for work. Different countries have different costs of living and it can often be difficult to compete with someone who is completely content making a couple of dollars an hour. We have provided some of the most popular avenues of finding new clients below, but we encourage you to always seek out new clients if you want to always be booked with work.

Scriptlance
Scriptlance.com is a personal favorite of mine, being an uneducated programmer. While work exists on this website for educated programmers, the typical client is often your everyday person trying to make money on the internet. They are usually trying to do it by running websites, selling products, affiliate programs or other marketing techniques. Most of the people there do not have huge budgets and cannot usually hire people as full time workers, so they contract out work on an as needed basis. Scriptlance also offers a wide variety of features that make their site appealing to use on a long term basis. Various security measures are also in place to help protect webmasters and workers such as an excellent escrow system where your money is held by them until you have completed the project. This can be helpful because with freelance work you usually do all of the work before you get paid anything. While scriptlance.com may have been intended as a programming freelance website, it is frequented by writing, data entry, website design, flash, graphic design work and more. Long time programmers can sometimes even sell previous scripts they have made with little or no adjustments. Scriptlance charges workers a $5 or 5% fee, whichever is larger, for each project they win.

Elance.com
Quite possibly the internet’s most popular freelance website. Nearly 27,000 freelance jobs are posted here every month in almost any category possible. Elance can tend to be a little bit more expensive than Scriptlance, but depending on your needs it may be worth the extra cost. Full-time freelancers will often cover more than one website to have as many jobs to choose from as possible. Many professional clients and freelancers (both individuals and companies) use this site.

GetACoder.com
GetACoder is another excellent place for beginning freelancers or uneducated freelancers. They charge a minimal amount of fees compared to a lot of other websites, so this can be a great place if you are looking to curb expenses.

GetAFreelancer.com
This website is similar to scriptlance.com but seems to have less American clients. Smaller projects can often be obtained here at decent pay rates, but a decent amount of larger projects can often have you working at poverty pay rates. It may be worth a look, but caution should be taken with what projects you obtain.

Odesk.com
Odesk is different from the other freelance websites because they seem to be geared towards hourly pay rates instead of project bids. In order to help ensure workers stay on track, they offer a number of services to help the client monitor the freelancer. Depending on what type of freelancer and how you prefer to work, this may or may not be the site for you. For freelancers that are tired of not being able to make a certain amount for every hour they put into the job, this may be the place you’ve been searching for.

Go Freelance: Find thousands of freelance and work-at-home jobs for just $7.00. Click here to start today
While GoFreelance can be one of the most expensive initial investments for all of the freelance sites, it may end up being the cheapest overall because they do not charge project fees. The $40 membership fee can be a little intimidating to newcomers though. They do provide services and a free freelancing course with a paid membership. It is also free and easy for job posters to list their projects.

Guru.com
Guru.com seems to be another one of the leaders in the same market as scriptlance.com except they seem to be geared more towards professional, highly experienced workers that are often educated in their field of work. Various design and programming companies even obtain their work through this website. While there are plenty of individuals seeking services on this site, there are a lot of companies also with larger budgets looking to outsource professional services. It is often possible to find full-time work, hourly work or salary work through this website. Given the nature of the clientele of this site, workers are required to pay regular fees to have full use of the website although it is possible to get a project through here for free, although very unlikely. They offer various membership levels depending on your needs.
