What Are Data Centres Made Up Of?
Data centres are an important part of any company or organization today. They offer a central storage and networking place for the company where data and information can be managed from centrally. So this brings us to the question, what are data centres meant for?
First of all they are meant for provision of storage space. To provide this they have high capacity storage servers which store all the data. The reason for storing all of it in one place is that it makes management easy. It is also easy to produce performance, financial and personnel reports when all the data is in one place. It is also secure when in one place than when scattered in different computers all over the company.
Their main function is to protect and maintain information belonging to a company. They do this by using the latest state of the art security systems so as to ensure that no one illegally accesses that information.
It is also responsible for the running and maintenance of the software applications that run the company. This ensures that the data stored is not lost or does not get corrupted since the application stores employee details, the financial records and virtually controls everything in the company. It also monitors user activities and transactions and keeps their records for future reference.
It hosts the main program that runs the company. This is the specialized application that the company uses to carry out operations. It is normally hosted on the servers in the center. This means that the software database is situated in the server and operations are controlled from there. This acts as the ideal place for this since it offers the central storage and it is always on therefore anyone can access the application at any time.
The center is also installed with a hi-tech security system. This ensures that the system is not accessed by unauthorized people. It does this by encrypting sensitive information and by user management. It sets user and password policies that govern what the different types of users can access and ensures that the users use complex password that cannot be easily cracked.
The company must also employ qualified personnel to run and manage the place. It must be monitored every time to ensure that it runs properly throughout and that any problems that arise are dealt with immediately. This is because the whole organizations operations rely on the center to run and any breakdown in the system might lead to a great loss.
Finally they cannot operate without personnel. The company must employ computer and telecommunication experts who are trained on how to manage and operate such data centre. The personnel offer 24 hour surveillance over the whole system to ensure that it operates in the best condition. So I guess that answers the question, what are data centres?
